The Joy of Books

Monday Inspiration: The Joy of Books

How about a PLAYFUL Monday inspiration? You might have seen this video floating around the net or maybe on Facebook. I had it emailed to me by my editor at Harvest House (thank you, Kim). It made me smile.

I’ll admit. I do like reading on my iPad, and I gave my Kindle to my hubby. But we both still enjoy a good BOOK now and then. So which is it for you? Or does it matter? Words are words, after all. And a good story is still just that. right?

Happy Monday, ya’ll.

  1. OK I will slowly admit to the fact that a Kindle has me kind of interested but I am still a bit old fashioned in that respect…I still just still enjoy holding a BOOK in my hands. I do not want them to ever stop making BOOKS do you even think that is possible? I know my small town library doesn’t carry some of the BOOKS I’ve wanted, so we shall see. Even though the Kindle holds how many books, amazing when you figure out the storage space and how many can you carry with you when you travel…for right now I still prefer an old fashioned BOOK…:)

  2. So agree with Gerri! Nothing like holding a Good Book and turning real pages. Yes a kindle would be easier to carry on a trip or certain places but I think technology is too much sometimes. What happens if the battery dies and you have no way of charging it right then. At least with a “real” book, one can still keep turning the pages!!

  3. I have a Kindle that my children gave me for Christmas, because I have bought so many books that I have about 50 plastic legal/letter boxes of them stacked in rooms in our house.
I still prefer real books, because I like to flip back to check on things as I read through a book. I can’t do that on a Kindle–maybe I just need more practice?
I have downloaded several books and a free version of the Bible, to use while I’m on trips to visit the family.

    • Oh Kaye. I know what you’re talking about. I went through my bookshelves and … what’s it called? Downsized. Everything I COULD part with, I took to the library. I kept my hardbacks. The books that are DEAR to me. And I still have you know …. 3 book cases. <> and my e-readers. It IS harder to flip back through an e-book though you can highlight things.

  4. Hi Vannetta!
I hadn’t seen that little video. It was so clever! I’ve always loved books, but I have to admit to loving my Kindle. I love being able to cart around all my favorite books at one time~and I do love not having the constant stack of books sitting on my bedside table.
That said, I still love going to Barnes and Noble, and I’ve never been able to leave there without a stack of books in my hands. Thanks for the Monday morning smile!

  5. Vannetta, that video is too cool! Well, I have a nook, and I could have a better upgrade on it if I wanted to, or a kindle, etc., but it would not be the same as going in a bookstore and looking for that one book that I am looking for! And then you find it and hold it in your hands and just can’t wait to open that first page…love books, lol! Have a great Monday!

    • Janie, it’s a fun video. Right? Well, we have a TINY bookstore, but it is very small. So an e-reader is nice for me, or else I have to order on-line. I try to support my bookstore here in town though. I do love books! You know that. : )

  6. I also love going to bookstores and just browsing. There is nothing like when you see a book that catches your attention and you can pick it up and read to see what it is about. How do you do that on a Kindle???

      • Yes that would be fun! Just not the same browsing on line for books as in the store for books. My husband once needed to run an errand before our movie started in an hour and a half. He said he would drop me off at Books-a-million. I said, “What am I going to do in Books-a-million for that long?” He said “It’s a book store, I know you know what you can do for that long. Just don’t have too many books by the time I get back LOL!!”

  7. I don’t have a kindle and I will say that I definitely prefer the real thing.
    I LOOOOVE To Read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. I still read paper back! I love the smell of the book:) only time I wish I had a kendle or notebook is when my husben is sleeping and I have the light on. I am stuck on real books:) thanks
