Saving Gideon and a free book

Everything Amish – Saving Gideon

Today I wanted to highlight my friend’s book, Saving Gideon. Written by Amy Lillard,savinggideon_3d this book is set in an Amish community in Oklahoma. I loved Amy’s “About Amy” page on her website. Visit it here and you’ll see why.

As to Saving Gideon (great title), here’s her blurb:

Gideon Fisher wants one thing out of life — to be left alone. This is not the Amish way, but he’s devastated after the death of his wife and son to the point of losing his faith. He buys a farm on the outskirts of the district and pulls away from his community. But when a freak spring snowstorm brings a beautiful Englisher to his farm, what choice does Gideon have but to let her in?Dallas socialite Avery Ann Hamilton is intrigued by the Amish farmer who pulls her out of the snow and into his austere lifestyle. Poor little rich girl, Avery has just gone through (yet another) bad breakup. Every man she meets only wants her for her father’s money. All she has ever wanted is to be loved for herself. Avery soon discovers the Oklahoma Amish country is the perfect place to hide out and heal her broken heart. But she finds a peace in those back roads that she’s never felt before. Now her life has purpose and meaning as she connects with God and those around her. And there’s something more as she begins to care for this man who needs both love and forgiveness.

Gideon never wanted to live again much less fall in love, but Avery finds her way into his heart, showing him the beauty of life and God’s greatness. Yet as the feelings between Avery and Gideon grow, can they overcome their dissimilar lifestyles, or will their sheer differences pull them apart?

You can find out more about Amy here. And you can see the Amazon page for saving Gideon here. I asked Amy how she came up with the setting for Saving Gideon.

“Clover Ridge is a fictional district, but it is located near northeast Oklahoma’s own Amish community in Chouteau in Mayes County. I chose my location for a couple of reasons, mainly because that’s where I live. But also to add somethign different into my books.”

Amy has graciously offered to give away a signed copy of Saving Gideon. Leave a comment below, and you’ll be entered. We’ll choose a winner within the next week.

Wow–I remember reading the first chapter of this book in a contest—a while ago–and LOVING it. I even told my daughter-in-law about an awesome 1st chapter I got to judge. She just asked me a few months ago about this story–And NOW I can tell her it’s out there to read. How cool is this? I can’t wait to read the rest of the story. I still remember the beginning.

I will have to add all of these to my wish list and I am now following her by email and on GoodReads.

  93. Tammy Ford Cuevas January 22, 2013 at 10:02 pm

One of the reasons I appreciate these Amish novels is that reality television has portrayed them so unfairly the last couple of years. It’s nice that there are writers who are willing to present the other side of the story.
